GREETINGS

We took the first step by integrating Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation and UBE Corporation's domestic electrolytes business for lithium-ion batteries (LIB) etc. and established our company in October 2020.

As the world faces environmental problems on a global basis, the trend toward electric vehicles is accelerating as a pathway to carbon neutrality, which the world is aiming for. Accordingly, lithium-ion battery (LIB) market used in electric vehicles is expected to expand.

Both Mitsubishi Chemical and UBE, which have a long track record in the LIB electrolyte business, are leveraging their strengths in product development, SCM, production, sales, and BCP to further strengthen competitiveness.

Our manufacturing sites include Yokkaichi Plant (in Mie Prefecture) and Sakai Plant (in Osaka) in Japan, and Changshu UM Battery Materials Co., Ltd. in China, which is a group company. In addition, we will promote the optimization of SCM, production, and sales in four regions around the world, including Mitsubishi Chemical's manufacturing sites in U.K. and U.S., and work together as a group to expand our market share mainly targeting electric vehicle market, where demand is expected to grow, as well as contributing to a carbon neutral society through our business.

We look forward to your continued support and encouragement.

Environmental Conservation

Among the environmental issues the chemical industry faces, positions global warming and climate change as the highest priority it must address. Therefore, the Group has been making a concerted effort to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG). Besides reducing GHG emissions arising from its business activities as a matter of course, the Company is also working to develop products that generate lower GHG emissions when used.

Life Cycle Assessments

MUIS identifies and discloses GHG emissions resulting from the delivery to plants of raw materials purchased, customers' use of products, and the disposal of products. These are known as Scope 3 emissions. MUIS began identifying its Scope 3 emissions in Japan and receiving third-party assurance in fiscal 2012. Going forward, the Company intends to extend the reach of this initiative to include overseas sister companies.

Respecting Intellectual Property Rights

When MUIS develops a new technology, product or service, it seeks to formalize and legally protect its rights to the value of such development using patents and other methods. MUIS takes appropriate measures when its own intellectual property rights are infringed upon by other parties. At the same time, the Company endeavors to respect the valid intellectual property rights of other parties and carries out careful research to ensure that it does not infringe upon such rights.

Respect for Human Rights

We understand our business may have human rights impacts both inside and outside the company throughout our business activities, including from research and development, procurement of raw materials, manufacturing, sales of products and services, distribution and disposal. We strive not to cause human rights infringement itself, nor to contribute to infringement of human rights caused by others, such as our business partners.

We are committed to respecting human rights understood as, at a minimum, those set out in the International Bill of Human Rights, and the International Labor Organization's Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. In addition, we support the United Nations “Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights” and the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact, and conduct business activities based on these principles.
